Episode 120: Building Stronger Communities Through Conversation, Reconciliation & Just Love

What happens when people with different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives choose to sit down at the same table instead of staying divided?

On Episode 120 of the Get ’N’ Your Business Podcast, host Alison Shores sits down with Madhur Dey, founder and CEO of Just Love, and Pastor Drew Thompson, lead pastor at Union City Church, to talk about how friendship, faith, difficult conversations, and a desire to strengthen their community grew into something much bigger.

Just Love began through Madhur and Drew’s own friendship. Despite sharing a common faith, their different life experiences led to challenging conversations about race, leadership, the church, and what it truly means to serve a community well. Instead of allowing those differences to pull them apart, they continued talking, listening, learning, and building trust.

Those conversations eventually helped inspire Union City Church, a deliberately multiracial church in Glynn County, and later Just Love, an independent nonprofit focused on helping churches, community leaders, organizations, and individuals pursue reconciliation in practical ways.

Episode Highlights

  • Why relationships matter. Madhur and Drew explain how meaningful change often begins not with a program, but with a friendship and a willingness to have difficult conversations.

  • Creating spaces where people can talk. Just Love brings people together across racial, generational, political, church, and community lines to listen to one another and better understand each other’s experiences.

  • The Reconciliation Journey Experience. Their six-week program combines biblical foundations, local history, honest conversation, and practical next steps designed to help participants become reconcilers within their own communities.

  • Going beyond conversation. The goal isn’t simply to talk about division. Participants are challenged to take what they learn back into their churches, businesses, schools, organizations, friendships, and neighborhoods.

  • A growing impact. In its first two years, Just Love has brought more than 250 leaders to the table, representing 23 congregations and 11 community organizations.

  • Bringing the work to Camden County. Rather than arriving with a predetermined plan, Madhur and the Just Love team want to begin by listening to Camden County leaders and understanding the community’s unique needs.

The message throughout the episode is simple: reconciliation doesn’t begin with having all the answers. Sometimes it begins with sitting across the table from someone, hearing their story, and being willing to continue the conversation.
