Camden County Georgia Chamber of Commerce - Kingsland, St. Marys, Woodbine

 

The county includes unspoiled Cumberland Island. Largely owned by the U.S. Department of the Interior, the island is accessible only by boat or plane. Nevertheless, Cumberland Island has almost 40,000 visitors annually.

Camden County is the site of the Kings Bay Submarine Base, home of the Trident Nuclear Submarine. Employment associated with construction of the base made Camden County the fastest growing county in the state in the 1980s.

The Crawfish Festival is celebrated annually in Woodbine and the Catfish Festival is held Labor Day weekend in Kingsland. St. Marys celebrates the 4th of July and Rock Shrimp Festivals sponsored by the St. Marys Kiwanis Club and the Mardi Gras sponsored by the St. Marys Downtown Merchants Association.

The Camden County School System is home to one comprehensive high school (with a separate center for ninth graders), two middle schools, nine elementary schools, and an Alternative School. The system serves approximately 9,600 students.
